Star Wars Episode VII Haters: I Find Your Lack of Faith Disturbing

When it comes to Star Wars, I have no safeword. Jar-Jar? Ooo, yeah, right there. Midichlorians? Thank you, sir, may I have another. Ewoks? YesyesyesYES! There’s a reason I’ve used the language of sadomasochism to describe my relationship with Star Wars. I know on one level that some aspects of Star Wars prequel trilogy (and the Ewoks in Episode 6) didn’t match the epic epicness of the original trilogy. I love them even though it hurts.

Disney has acquired Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion in stock and cash, which will likely move founder, chairman, and CEO of Lucasfilm, George Lucas, to a more vaunted position on the Forbes 400 chart. The leadership of Lucasfilm will pass to longtime producer Kathleen Kennedy.

The 2012 movie, The Avengers, earned $1.46 billion, as well as Marvel’s supreme confidence in director Joss Whedon. (We fans already knew he was awesome.) Now Marvel is giving him more than a pat on the back: Whedon will given the role of director in the upcoming sequel, Avengers 2. And here’s the cherry on the awesome cake: Our big damn hero will also be developing a Marvel TV series.

Why Negative Press on the Upcoming “John Carter” Is Nobody’s Fault But Disney’s

Fact: I’m a fan of the 1917 novel, A Princess of Mars, the book that serves as the inspiration for the upcoming Disney movie, John Carter. I love Edgar Rice Burroughs’ prose and his world-building of Mars. But I’m less than happy with the negative press surrounding John Carter, especially because some of it has been deserved. And if the movie flops, Disney will have no one but itself to blame.
