Quantic Dream’s upcoming PS3 game, Beyond: Two Souls, looks to build on the success of its previous title, suspense thriller Heavy Rain, with a touching story of a girl and her vengeful ghost ally. Beyond: Two Souls is stylistically inspired by its predecessor, but it ups the ante by blending event-triggered gameplay with more traditional action elements–as well as the ability to play either girl or ghost.
At the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday, April 27, David Cage, CEO of Quantic Dream, displayed a half hour’s worth of footage from the upcoming videogame, Beyond: Two Souls (B2S). If you’ve experienced the cinematic style of QD’s previous game, Heavy Rain, you’d know why B2S is a natural fit for a film festival: Quantic Dream’s games tell stories, and the half hour of B2S tells the story of a girl whose invisible friend is actually a powerful and dangerous entity.
Quantic Dream has kept a tight lid on information about their upcoming PS3 game, Beyond: Two Souls. So far, we know that it’s about a young woman, Jodie (the phenomenal actress, Ellen Page), and an entity, Idan, that follows her wherever she goes. From what we’ve seen, it looked as if the game were a one-woman show. But Quantic Dream has revealed that Page has a co-star in Willem Dafoe.
Tonight Sony will be holding an event here in New York City called “PlayStation 2013,” known to the rest of the world as “the reveal of the PlayStation 4.” I expect we’ll be learning everything there is to know about the new-gen console, and I expect it will be awesome.
