Diablo 3 wasn’t the only game with birth pains. After what seemed like a smooth launch, ArenaNet has been experiencing frequent technical difficulties with its spanking new MMO, Guild Wars 2 (GW2).
The game is currently only open to players who pre-purchased the game, and opens fully on August 28th, this Monday Tuesday. Even so, many players have had problems logging in. Others, once logged in, get booted off their servers. (I haven’t managed to log in myself yet, with a lot of ‘Error Code 9:4:5:1268′ messages. This may mean the game thinks I’m not eligible for “Headstart Access,” despite the email from ArenaNet with my access key stating that I am. Others look to be in the same boat.)
Fans on GW2′s Facebook page seem to be disappointed yet understanding. This understanding may stretch thin if players, who prepaid for GW2 in order to spend this weekend exploring the updated world of Tyria, cannot log in as the hours pass.
I reached out to ArenaNet, but at the time of this writing, the company has not responded (fair enough, they’re actually busy). ArenaNet has been frequently updating its Twitter and Facebook accounts to assure players that they’re working to fix these problems. However, that’s partly because their own forums are also having problems.
Still, early reports of GW2 are good. Players who have successfully got in say they’ve been enjoying the combat, the dynamic events, and Tyria’s scenery. They also appreciate the detailed character creation. So for those of usĀ waiting outside the gate, hopefully the wait won’t be too much longer.
UPDATED: I tried logging in on Saturday evening and failed. I finally succeeded after multiple attempts over two hours.
