After three years plus several specials of fawning over David Tennant’s version of the Doctor in Doctor Who, I admit that I wasn’t immediately bowled over by Matt Smith’s performance. But his youthful take on the 11th iteration of the character slowly won me over, and by the end of Smith’s second season, I thought I would need a dose of methadone to keep me going until the next season, in August 2012.
And now I have something else to keep me going.
A few days ago at San Diego Comic-Con, a six-year-old girl in the arms of her father asked Smith if he was scared of the Doctor’s very deadly nemeses, the Weeping Angels. In return, Smith asked her, “Are you scared of the Weeping Angels?” She nods, wide-eyed.
Then Smith wins the convention with his answer, which you can see, below.
“Of course,” he said, “but don’t worry. I’m going to fight them off, so it’s alright.”
Matt, please forgive me for ever doubting you.
