Macintosh users who are excited about The Guild Wars 2 (GW2), rejoice. ArenaNet has heard our cries at the gates of Tyria to let us in. GW2 will now be available on the Mac.
According to ArenaNet,
“Guild Wars 2 will be available for Mac in a beta version to anyone who purchases Guild Wars 2. The Mac beta version of Guild Wars 2 is still being optimised and, unlike other betas, is connected to the live servers allowing everyone to play together on both Mac and Windows based computers. Users will be able to access the Mac beta client through the Guild Wars 2 account management website after activating their game code.”
Previously, Macintosh users who wanted in on some GW2 action had four choices:
1. PlayOnMac has Macintosh users (like me) covered, however players noted that when using this method, GW2’s frame rate drops considerably.
2. Mac users could also play GW2 on Bootcamp. However, not every Mac user has the disk space or desire to run a Windows partition.
3. Buy a PC. Sob quietly when you have to press the “Start” button to quit.
4. Buy a dedicated gaming PC. Keep it protected to the hilt and use it only for gaming.
I chose #4. But thanks to this live beta, I’ll be able to play with my husband instead of looking longingly at him when it’s his turn on the keyboard.
This begs the question, what will this already gorgeous game look like on a Retina Display?
