The sequel to The Hunger Games, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, is currently in pre-production, with director Francis Lawrency actively casting Jennifer Lawrence (no relation to the director)’s and Woody Harrelson’s’s co-stars. Who’s the latest catch for Catching Fire? The multitalented Philip Seymour Hoffman (Boogie Nights, Red Dragon, Cold Mountain, etc.)
Hoffman, who can go from loveable to menacing to sleazy in the blink of an eye, will be playing Plutarch Heavensbee, the Head Gamemaker of the 75th Hunger Games. If you recall the end of The Hunger Games, the gamemaker of the 74th Hunger Games, Seneca Crane, found himself on the business end of some deadly nightlock berries.
He’ll be joining Jena Malone (Contact, Pride and Prejudice), who has been cast as Johanna Mason, a former winner of the Hunger Games. How does a former winner find herself sharing the screen with Katniss Everdeen? Read the book and find out for yourselves. You’ll be glad you did.
Catching Fire has not gone into production, but the film already has a release date, November 22, 2013. This should give you plenty of time to read that book!
