As some of you may know, there are not one but two Snow White movies coming out this year: Snow White and the Huntsman and Mirror, Mirror. From the trailer of Mirror, Mirror, I can already tell you I won’t be seeing it: it looks silly rather than funny, plus it uses the title of one of my favorite Star Trek episodes without giving me Spock’s beard. But this new trailer of SWatH (below), on the other hand, is so full of delicious action and mesmerizing imagery that once upon a time never looked so here and now.
(Of course, if you’ve read the Grimm’s fairy tales, you’ll know that they’re rather, um, grim–Snow White included.)
Anyway, the trailer really is terrific. The focus is split between Charlize Theron’s evil Queen Ravenna, who wants to conquer the world, and Kristen Stewart‘s resourceful Snow White is fleeing from a terror she doesn’t understand. Finally, Stewart will get to prove to a large audience what a fine actor she actually is: you can see it in her smaller movies, The Runaways and Adventureland. (We already know from Monster that Theron is an acting powerhouse.)
I’m looking forward to seeing this new take on an old classic. Now check out the trailer for yourselves:
