In the last few years, zombies have shambled into the public eye through movies, television, books, and videogames, generating $5 billion for our economy. But they haven’t stayed confined to fiction. No, the living dead have been walking among us…and having a great time doing it.
The living have been using zombies as a springboard to get their messages across to the media; other want to just have fun and, um, let it all hang out. Zombie-related activities have sprung up all over the world, much like a hand thrust out from a grave. You can join them yourselves or even start your own zombie group. All you need are raggedy clothes, some face paint, an unsteady gait, and a sense of humor.
Here are some of the fun ways people have participated in the zombie zeitgeist. Those with kinemortophobia (it’s a word. I looked it up) should stay away.
