Not too long ago, we saw a trailer for an upcoming trailer of Prometheus. I was hoping that a release of 20 seconds worth of footage, interspersed by 10 seconds of multiple titles, was a limited phenomenon. But no, it’s back, this time with the upcoming movie, Total Recall.
What can I say about a trailer for a trailer that’s actually sincere? Well, there are a few moments that reminded me of the 1990 Arnold Schwartzenegger version (although there were almost no moments that reminded me of Philip K. Dick’s novellette, “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale”). And yes, there are tantalizing glimpses of a world that is reminiscent of the classic Blade Runner, which is also based on a Philip K. Dick novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
Perhaps what we really need is a trailer for the reality that our protagonist Quaid gets implanted into his head, so when we see Total Recall on screen, it may seem as if the Rekal vision is more real to us than the movie itself.
Philip K. Dick would be proud.
