Hardcore Star Trek fans don’t care for the rebooted 2009 movie for its inconsistencies with the Trek universe. (You killed Vulcan, you b——d.) As we know, the upcoming videogame is also part of the rebooted universe. But old school fans should appreciate that the game pays homage to the original series by taking on an old enemy familiar to William Shatner’s James T. Kirk, the Gorn, from the episode “Arena.” And it’s clear from the video, below, that Shatner thinks its time for a rematch.
The video shows my favorite aspect about the game, to be released on April 23rd (or 26th if you’re Euro): the fabulous co-op mode, of which I’ll be writing about in greater, praiseworthy length. Shatner is fighting the Gorn in the videogame, but his Gorn sofa buddy isn’t much help. That means it’s fighting time.
Of course, if you know “Arena” as well as the rest of us, you’d recognize Shatner’s moves instantly.
If only this ad used the iconic fight music. Then it would have been perfect.
Star Trek the videogame will be released on the PS3, Xbox 360, and Windows. It was developed by Digital Extremes, which was rated one of the top ten employers in Canada by the Financial Post for 2010.
