I love my iPhone, I really do. But unlike the Android phone, it isn’t a magic wand in disguise. Yes, you read that right. The Android phone is about to become imbued with the power of Harry Potter.
According to the Verge, Google and Warner Bros. have teamed up to create a phone that responds to some spells/commands used in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series—a way to promote the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It’s a combination almost as awesome as peanut butter and chocolate (or apple pie and stilton for those on the other side of the pond).
Starting with the “OK Google,” voice command, Android users can silence their phones by saying “Silencio” or turn their flashlights on and off by saying, “Lumos” or “Nox,” respectively.
(Sadly not included in the list of Android magic spells: “Pack,” “Cantis,” and our favorite, “Repello Muggletum.”)
In addition, the Verge writes, “Google is also adding tours of locations in Fantastic Beasts using Google Street View, allowing fans to virtually visit the Magical Congress of the USA, The Blind Pig speakeasy, and the apartment of some of the films main characters.”
This street view comes with a few photos of these locations. And as with any Google Map, you can get directions to any of these places, so you know how to reach your magical destination.
If only Google can give us directions to 1926, when Fantastic Beasts is set….
