We love J.K. Rowling for her expansive and surprisingly realistic look at wizards in her famed Harry Potter series. But we also love her for her sharp mind and sharper tongue. So when one hater threatened her on Twitter, she came up with a comeback so full of fire, the entire internet felt the burn.
Of course, it had to do with fire.
It started when President Donald Trump banned Muslims from seven countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen) from entering the United States for 90 days. Rowling responded to this crisis by retweeting a post from Vice President Mike Pence:
Calls to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. are offensive and unconstitutional.— Governor Mike Pence (@GovPenceIN) December 8, 2015
Yahoo wrote this article about Rowling’s retweet, and an unknown hater took offense.
Unknown Hater tweeted at the author, “Glad I caught this article on Yahoo. I will now burn your books and movies too.”
Rowling’s response: “Well, the fumes from the DVDs might be toxic and I’ve still got your money, so by all means borrow my lighter.”

As you can see from her tweets, Rowling is politically minded and sharp tongued, and she continues to comment on President Trump’s ban on Muslim greencard and visa holders, a unified Europe, and mass shootings in the United States–typically, with savage wit. At other times, she tweets messages of compassion and well-wishes to fans who reach out to her.
Hilarious political fury and compassion? Rowling isn’t just our literary hero. She’s our hero.
