Anyone who saw Star Wars in 1977 knew that George Lucas’ film transported viewers to a galaxy far, far away thanks to never-before-seen special effects and never-before-heard sound design. Star Wars was ahead of its time. But what would it look like if Star Wars was of its time?

It would look a lot like this brilliant video, courtesy of the fine folks at Mashable Watercooler.

1977 wasn’t just the year Star Wars hit theaters. It was also the year that saw the release of classic exploitation films Suspiria, Wanda the Wicked Warden, Ilsa the Tigress of Siberia, and Marquis de Sade’s Justine. Grindhouse theaters were in full swing back then–cheap movies made quickly, with themes of sex, violence, and sexual violence.

The editors of this Star Wars exploitation trailer are obviously fans of the genre; the film quality here has been deliberately degraded, and the trailer has been given a voice-over of pure ‘70s cheese. (“Revenge is a dish best served… in space!”) The remnants of grindhouse theaters were swept away with the advent of the VCR, but the exploitation genre has never gone away completely and was given a homage by Quentin Tarantino in the 2007 movie Grindhouse.

Check out the trailer, which is awesome… but it can never be as awesome as a previous Star Wars exploitation trailer from Lando’s point of view: Blackstar Warrior.
